Native Sun

“No conversation about New York City rock ’n’ roll is complete without Native Sun. Fronted by Colombian-American songwriter Danny Gomez, the band makes undeniably cathartic and timeless songs. Along with bassist Justin Barry and drummer Nico Espinosa, their livewire local gigs are simultaneously welcoming, unpredictable, and chaotic, and have made them a can’t-miss fixture of city nightlife with a scrappy but sizable following.
Their latest EP “Off With Our Heads,” out on Grand Jury Music (Twin Peaks, Carl Barat, TOLEDO), offers their rawest and most resonant collection of songs yet. Produced by Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits, Rival Schools, Youth of Today) and recorded live-to-tape, the tracks burst with the kinetic energy of their live show but find Gomez singing about grief and his disillusionment with the world, while lovingly capturing the chaos, humanity, and sense of boundless possibility and potential for serendipitous moments of connection that make NYC a central inspiration for the band and the rest of the world.”
