John Gerrit
Moss of Aura is the solo project of Gerrit Welmers, the synth-wiz behind Baltimore’s art-pop force Future Islands. Welmers has been creating under the Moss of Aura moniker since 2006, with a handful of self-released endeavors already under his belt.
His first full length vinyl LP comes via Friends Records, an 11 track vacation titled Wading. While its roots may be found in the shallow waters of Mitchell Village, NC where Welmers and Future Islands band mate Sam Herring grew up, Wading was written and recorded in Baltimore, MD in between months of heavy touring . Life on the road often lead to doses of insanity, and Wading offered an outlet for decompression and reflection.
Its deeply emotive synthscapes are left for the listener to interpret, with songs that can equally make you want to dance, rest your head, laugh, cry, or simply just be. Glowing melodies, infectious beats, shimmering keys, and mystery collide to form a sound that could only exist right now – a cosmic blend fit for any escape you choose.
